heth1986
Hi all, I've read somewhere on this forum that people have had some success in using the 'carpark' matting in their coops to stop the chooks destroying the grass altogether? I'm thinking of getting some for half of my girls run but can't help thinking that the carpark stuff will be really thick with large holes in it. Just wandered what had been tried and tested and any suggestions please?! Thanks!
blueandwhite
I'v not tried it but have been thinking about it in new garden. If you search on ebay for 'grass paving' it comes up. I'm pretty sure the chooks would still eat the grass but it would stop them digging maybe?
heth1986
Yep, that was my thinking, they'll keep it rather short I'm sure but I thought I could throw a load of seed down first and then at least it will keep growing and they'll only be able to nibble the tops off instead of digging it up roots an all! mollyripkim
We got our grass matting feb last year from Homebase and it has much smaller holes. I have nine silkie who FR all day and had a lovely lawn last summer as opposed to the previous one when it was just bare and full of holes. It also stopped the dogs from digging holes although the chickens still ate the grass. It began to suffer over the winter so recently we reseeded half of it and it's amazing how quickly it has recovered.
