keyhole kate Posted April 15, 2012 Share Posted April 15, 2012 (edited) I have bought some hatching eggs six pekins 2 lavendar 2 blue 2 gold I have two current broodies cobwebb and spook both of which are regular broodies that never give up bespite cold dunks and sin binning I am quite excited as I have never hatched before I have thought long and hard about any unwanted boys and I am prepared to dispatch if unable to rehome we have a local kids type farm that also sells chooks they will take boys and sell them on for you too so wish me luck I will keep you updated on progress. Purplemaniacs Posted April 15, 2012 Share Posted April 15, 2012 How exciting. We had not hatched until last weekend, by the end of the weekend we had 16 bantam chicks. They are very sweet. It is very worrying at times but a great experience that we will defininely repeat in the future. We used an incubator rather than a broody. Good luck. I have a broody pekin bantam hen at the moment sitting on four possibly fertile eggs so fingers crossed she will have some chicks. We are on day eight of incubation, going to check the eggs tonight to see whether its a success or not. How far are you? I candled my eggs about 10 minutes ago and I have a feeling out of the four two are positive, which is great Looks like my broodys hard work is paying off after all. keyhole kate Posted May 2, 2012 Author Share Posted May 2, 2012 Okay the chicks are expected this weekend I was planning to go to my caravan my YD will be at home but I am now wondering if I should stay at home in case there are any problems as I have never hatched before I am worried in case anything goes wrong and I need to step in.
