would 180cm x 220cm be way to small a space for 2/3 pekin bantams, if they were only going to be FR for an hour or two in the evening and a bit extra at weekends (i.e when we are home)?

That should be fine. I think the usual guidance is 1 square metre per hen (large fowl) of run space, so you have enough space there for 4 large fowl. 2 or 3 bantams should be very happy

I think it's OK, but it's surprising how much of your run space the feeder and drinker will take up, and maybe a bale of straw as a windbreak. We've got 4 large fowl in 12 sq m, with free range time of a couple of hours a day. I'd consider upping the number to 6, but not more. Bantams obviously need less space, but I'd be surprised if 1 sq m per bird of overall run space wasn't a sensible minimum if their FR time is restricted (as ours is).

I think the overall space is probably OK for a couple of pekins if they also have some f/range time but it would also be worth putting in at least one perch/logs and hanging thinks to keep them amused in the run. Alli x

Thanks, very useful to hear what people think. I definitely think some entertainment for them would be in order

 

Am thinking I will have the coop up on a table to maximise floor space for them.
