ohcarolina
Persephone is hunched in the garden (they are all FRing) and I just picked her up for a once over and as I tilted her forward yellow liquid ran out of her beak. Having read some posts I've upended her and emptied a load of stinky mud-like and mud smelling liquid out of her . When I put her down she's wobbly on her feet and using her wings to steady herself. Her crop was squishy and puffy. Is this sour crop or possibly a blockage? WHat gets blocked in there? Any suggestions? What do I do? Why is it always Saturday's when Sunday is mega-vet charges ? Caroline .
Christian
Sounds like sour crop to me. It could be caused by a blockage - possibly grass if that are free ranging and she has eaten long strands? I would separate her, give her natural yoghurt and make sure she is eating it. Apple cider vinegar in the water and keep a close eye on her. Live maggots will help if it is a blockage. Good luck. ohcarolina
Thanks Christian They've trashed most of the grass but there is long stuff at the end of the garden. When I upended her only liquid came out. Should I squeeze or massage her crop to get it out - how 'rough' can I be with her? Where can I buy live maggots - the dreaded Pets at Home sell some live food but I don't see maggots listed - they're my nearest pet place locally. Also - how do I 'feed' her nat yoghurt if necessary? Can it be syringed? caroline
Christian
Yes Caroline, a syringe or just a bowl in front of her if she is eating. Mine love yoghurt and make a right mess when eating it Fishing tackle shops sell maggots if you have one nearby? If the crop is blocked you can treat for impacted crop - sticky in the Clinic section. Be very careful when upending her, I found that just tilting the head forward towards the ground was enough for some of the liquid to come out, but you have to do this slowly and tilt the head back, so she can breathe.....Little and often is best and give her a few seconds each time to recover. Good luck!
