chestnutmare
..And why is there differing opinions on this? I've been researching and it seems some say the incubation period is 18 days for bantams and some say 21 days, the same as larger chickens. So would a large fowl silkie take 21 days to incubate and a miniature size silkie take 18 days?
Space Chick
My silkies took 21 days last year and they are inbetweenies
chestnutmare
My silkies took 21 days last year and they are inbetweenies But how did you know they were going to take 21 days? Did you still increase the humidity at the last 3 days of bantam times incubation? Am I making sense?
Purplemaniacs
My bantams hatched on day 21 and 22 with the exception of Tumble who hatched on day 17 to my shock, incy was still being turned hence the name he or she tumbled down the other rows of eggs. I was hatching a mix of bantams and large fowl (and my inbetweenie silkies )
Purplemaniacs
I was going to up the humidity and stop turning on day 15 but fortunately those who know better on the forum told me it was 21 days and not 18. Chrissie
chestnutmare
Ah Debs only here would I make sense. Thanks both. I will aim for 21 days incubation then, increasing the humidity at 18 days, assuming if I got 'miniature' silkies they may be inbetweenies anyway. Am I sounding like I'm going down the right path here?
Purplemaniacs
That sounds about right to me but I have only hatched once. Chrissie
chuckmum6
My banties all hatched from under their respective mums after three weeks.
