AJuff
Last year we hatched some cream crested legbars. We kept two and my friend has the other two. They integrated well and we have lovely blue eggs from them. All has been tickety boo until last week when 'Petal' more like 'Metal Beak' pecked me so hard on my leg that she broke the skin through my jeans. Since then everytime I go into the hen run she keeps coming towards me and I have to fend her off. She is so agressive. She's not broody, nothing has changed in her run, she's definitely a she as she lays eggs . . . what should I do?
clucker1
A friend of mine had a chicken like that. The chicken used to lunge at you as soon as you entered the wir. It pecked me through jeans too, but luckily didn't hurt me. The chickens at that time were kept in a medium size wir....however she then put them out to free range in a field and the chicken then calmed down and went back to normal behaviour. It was a light Sussex. Hope this helps.
Lewis
Sounds like it could be a dominance thing - you could try picking her up and carrying her round every days to show you are dominant, but understand thats easier said than done. Can you maybe separate her into a dog crate or metal cat carrier (at night) for a few days, and then put her back in with the flock so that she enters as lower in the pecking order ? Patricia W
I think Lewis' advice is spot on - you need to break the dominance cycle.
