kannie
I've finally finished my degree (in Jewellery design), and have been selected for the big national 'New Designers' show next week. My final submission was a collection of brooches based on my sketches of birds (i.e. mostly my chickens!) You can see some of them on my new website here: http://www.christinekaltoft.co.uk. However I've had no end of problems with setting up the website, and have finally had to put it on a free webhosting place. However when I check it, I sometimes get horrible advertising banners blocking out my name So I wondered if you might have a look and see if you get these pop-up banners too? If you do - any idea how I can get rid of them, or where I might get my website hosted for free without pop-up advertising?
Helly Welly
The banners seem to block your name on the homepage but was okay on the current collection page. Cool brooches by the way
BeckyBoo
Hi congratulations on finishing your degree and being selected - how fab! I checked the site and to start with the stupid banner did appear, but once I'd scrolled back up from the bottom it had gone. I'm a technophobe so no idea how to help I'm afraid, but that O-shaped brooch is lovely, the shape looks familiar..... Love the wood and silver, really really lovely. Helly Welly
Looked again and the ad disappears after about ten seconds.
Guest
We have recently put a site on www.1and1.co.uk. It cost about £22 for the year and is SOOOO easy.
Egluntyne
Great stuff Kannie. What was your inspiration I wonder?
hillfamily
Wow what wonderful brooches. Loved them. Did find that there were adverts across your name but they came and went Sorry I don't know about websites
Kathy C
Congratulations Kannie! You will have to change your signature to Kannie BA now! When is graduation? Your website comes up fine, gorgeous graphics and photos. There are pop ups across your name on the fromnt page, but not the "collection page" when I went back to home another pop up appeared. Sorry I can't help with removing them, I've not even got a website.

Guest
As with Ginette I use 1and1.co.uk and they are excellent! I have a business package now but used to have the home one until I ended up with about 20 sites!!!! It really is quite cheap and will pay dividends for your business. kannie
Thanks! 1and1 sound good - I'll check them out - do they put adverts on your site?
Guest
No advertisements at all. And they're really helpful if you have dumb questions or any problems getting it set up. We found it quick and simple to use. our site: www.rscmsouthwark.org.uk
One Man Banned
Well done Christine - and I didn't get an ad banner For websites: I used Mr Site for mine and it's very easy to use and set up. (if you do go with them, let me know as they hold a referral scheme!) The collection looks really good and congratulations for the degree. kannie
Thanks! I do wish it wasn't all so complicated! Mr Site looks good, but seeing as I've already designed my website, it seems a bit sad not to use it! Problem is I've done it in Frontpage, and it seems lots of webhosting companies don't work with Frontpage 1&1 looks good too, but because of 'Frontpage extensions', 1&1 would cost me over £70pa, which seems a lot more than the starter package of £22! What makes it more irritating is that we've actually got an allocation of webspace in our Tiscali broadband package. Their literature says Tiscali doesn't work with Frontpage extensions (whatever they are) but doesnt say you can't use Frontpage at all, which seems to be the case. One Man Banned
with Mr Site you can use Frontpage Christine as well as being able to use Mr Site and point your current website name to their server. (I sound like I know how to do this personally but Mr Site tells you what you have to do! - It's techno gobbledegook to me!) I tried using Frontpage as I thought I'd be Ok with the window's format.....how wrong was I ! A xx
