Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

I am so pleased!!! Thought I'd go and have a cuppa with the girls while dinner cooks, and noticed 3 werent in the run but in the house, so thought while they were having a quiet moment I would check the nest box and there it was...our first weighing 53g!

 

Ive only had the girls since Wednesday, but Ben at MMF said that Hilda looked like she would be the first to lay and I am over the moon, its perfect!

Its smaller/slimmer than a supermarket egg, I'm quite pleased as it's Hilda's very first egg

Brilliant, first eggs are so special. It is a good size for a first egg, they are often much smaller and gradually get big.

 

How are you going to eat the egg?

I had it fried on a slice of toast! And it was a double yolker!

 

It was GORGEOUS!!!

 

I have had to promise the next one to the OH or the kids. Didn't get an egg yesterday, but wasn't really eggs-specting one (sorry I had to do it lol)

i share your joy - I have had an egg famine - 1 hen too old, another moulting and 2 new gals when I found a little "learner egg" - I had to buy eggs at weekend. i was shrieking "egg egg" - i was like a big kid and I'm only 50

Another hen has laid her first egg today, a lovely weighing in at 37g, she was so proud when she lifted herself, so i made sure she got an extra thank you and no doubt she will get some extra mealworms at tea time
