clucker1
Cluck, one of our original Omlet girls who is now 2 and a bit years old for the last 2 nights has not wanted to go into the cube at night. Today she did not free range, preferring to stay in the run. She spent at least an hour on the nest yesterday with no egg . Her comb isn't looking brilliant either...picked her up, could feel no lumps or bumps. Any ideas what might be going on in her world? Luvachicken
I'm sorry I can't offer much advice, but I didn't want to just pass by, and I'm sure someone more knowlegable will be along soon. Is she still eating and drinking ? Maybe she has a softy coming - but then as you've had her a while I'm sure you'd know if it was that. I hope she feels better soon. Egghead68
Does her abdomen feel squelchy? If so, could be peritonitis. Hope not.
clucker1
Thank you luvachicken and egghead68. She seems a bit better today....is definitely eating treats, although haven't seen her eat any normal pellets. She still doesn't look quite right, although she is moving around a lot better. No eggs either. Will continue to keep a close eye on her, she is such a sweet clever chicken, although now looking older more matronly in her maturer years. Gertie
I don't have much expertise in hen conditions, but Ive had a few sick hens! Maybe that might give you some ideas?! I had a hen a while back who was subdued & had a purplish Combe. She had sour crop (squishy with brown fluid coming out when tipped up). A trip to the vet for that. Then recently I posted about my ex battery hen who is probably around 3.5 years. She was looking very subdued & off her food, not free ranging & going to bed very early. I took her to vets & they gave her vitamin injection & Beryls good bacteria which I had to mix up & syringe feed her, that really helped. Maybe something like that might help your hen. I ve often heard hens don't want to go up bed if there are infestations of mites in the coop (but I guess that's unlikely of the others are going to bed ok!) Could she be too weak to get up the ladder? Anyway, hope she continues to improve.
