That nose can smell stinky pilchards a mile away - talking of pilchards did you clear out the Pound Stores supply DM, only one left yesterday. The Dogmother Posted August 4, 2012 Share Posted August 4, 2012 I remembered this thread after reading about a lurcher whining and carrying on in the same way after a GA - apparently it is common when they are given something called Vetagesic as pain relief after an op; it affects some dogs badly and it may be worth asking them to make a note on his records to use an alternative if her ever needs another op. They got him so stressed by trying to muzzle him that they could not take them out. They want me to take him in and have him sedated. After talking to a vet nurse friend I am going to wait until he is asleep and try and snip them. I think he will be fine if in the right environment. Cyrus is a bit of a barbed wire magnet and I'm not about to go to the vet every time something needs attention; as with chickens I've become quiet self-reliant over the years. welovemarmite Posted August 5, 2012 Author Share Posted August 5, 2012 well stan was happily engrossed in his chew last night, so i rolled him onto his back and put chew back in his mouth, then whipped the stitches out. If he ever has to have them again I will be taking them out. I knew it was possible to do it perfectly well without trying to muzzle him and wind him up. From what had happened i think they had taken his bite not collar off before they tried. He hates the sound of the velcro, so he would have got stressed straight away. Meganymoo Posted August 9, 2012 Share Posted August 9, 2012 My working cocker spaniel was castrated last Thursday and he hasn't seemed to of noticed yet! He has jumped over a wall, been on a walk of the lead and jumped up and loads of people and his stitches still haven't ripped! They must of given him the strongest thread ever! Snowy Posted August 9, 2012 Share Posted August 9, 2012 Do be careful with him and try not to let him jump up - it is not the risk of stitches splitting that you have to worry about (they won't split, the thread is too strong) but the tissue that is being held together will be re-traumatised every time he jumps and won't heal properly. Our bunny also somehow removed his collar - and you could see the expression on his face " na na nee na na" . They are so crafty. I feel your pain.
