Luvachicken
My chicks are approx 13 weeks old now, and have been doing well so far, but the last couple of days the welsummer, Penny, has been looking a bit sad and not as energetic as the others. I know it's really hot here, I have put a sunshade up for them, but I thought maybe some tonic in their water might help. The only thing is I don't know what amount of tonic to put into what amount of water. Can anyone tell me ? She is eating and drinking and otherwise looks fine. Thanks x
surf_space
every tonic i've ever used normally says the amount to put in in the instructions, if not i think for a Johnsons tonic it normally says about 5ml. Hope this helps
Luvachicken
Thanks TheVillageChickens. The instructions on my bottle of LifeGuard say 25ml in 10 litres for maintenance or 25ml in 2 litres for poor condition. Suitable for chickens, ducks, geese and all domestic fowl. But it doesn't say anything specific for chicks.
surf_space
If I were you I would use half of the stated dosage as they are a lot smaller than adult birds. I did this with my bantams as they are only small and they look really healthy!
The Dogmother
I use it at half the usual dose when I give it to chicks, they seem to thrive on it.
Redwing
I agree, half the dose seems about right
