good_egg
Out Vivienne was back at the vet on Thursday. She had been the week before with a slight limp and this had progressed to her being unable to walk over the week despite meds. she stayed in on Thursday night as she was panting heavily (had also got worse over the week) and was having an x-ray on Friday morning. I got the horrible call at work to say there was a cloudy area on x-ray and they thought she had a reproductive problem and peritonitis. They could drain and spay her but her breathing was so bad she might not survive and also the infection wasn't responding to the antibiotics. We made the horrible decision to have her PTS. The PM showed a cyst and a lot of yolks in her abdomen, she has always laud softies. I feel devastated and am worrying there is more I should have done or have spotted it earlier. The only silver lining us it wasn't Mareks (confirmed by PM) and our other girls should be ok. Our black rock Coco has now gone broody and Lulu the welsummer looks lost in the run by herself and keeps going to supervise Coco. I think we are all missing our lovely Viv who was the friendliest of our girls. RIP lovely girl.
LottyJ1
So sorry to hear about Viv. These things tend to go on inside without any symptoms for a long time so dont feel bad! Maybe time to think about getting two more?

good_egg
Thanks so much everyone for your kind wishes. We are thinking of getting another 2 next weekend as the run looks so empty, but have to persuade our neighboursv(not really allowed chooks and got permission for 3....). Fingers crossed no objection and intros go smoothly. We'll never forget our friendly Viv though.
