HarrisonFamily
Hello, Anyone else suffer from motion sickness when watching HDTV, we have a really old TV so I have no problems but I have noticed at my sisters and friends that even looking at the TV for 30 seconds results in me feeling sick - both are HDTV I end up trying to look at anything else in the room but as everything seems to be going that way any idea how to stop it ??? Thanks for any help.......
surfer_chicken
I don't know about HDTV, haven't really experienced it, but I definitely get motion sickness when watching 3D TV/films so it might be possible.
Charlottechicken
Oh no, that's very unfortunate, and annoying, for you. Is it any programme in HD or just fast moving ones, like sports? Are you distracted while watching, turning to talk to people, and the back to the tv, or are you sitting at a wide angle to the tv? I've just watched the Olympics on a new HDTV and found it fine (have a history of motion sickness, vertigo, benign positional vertigo and feeling sick when doing lots of data input at work sometomes, so really do sympathise), although find the non HD channels a bit blurry when movement is on the screen Just thought I've had problems in the past with too much colour or contrast on the TV, and had to have the plain background colour on my PC at work changed from the corporate colour to a more muted one as it was giving me ocular migraines
HarrisonFamily
Its anything.....I tried watching the dressage in the Olympics with my sister and managed about 1 minute...I have never watched 3D and from my experience of HDTV I think I'll avoid it for now...... Looney
Someone else (and I can't remember who) told me it took them a while to get used to HDTV as it made them feel queasy, but I have a feeling it was due to the size (enormous) of the screen that was the problem as well. I get motion sickness if I watch tv after a few drinks
welovemarmite
mmmm not had hdtv (trying to talk my husband out of it) but i get motion sickness very easily. Cant watch home movies....
cyclonetog
As Looney pointed out it's probably more to do with the size than the fact that it's in HD. Have you tried watching standard def on your sisters HDTV, I doubt it'd make any difference for you but I'd be really interested to see if it did. We went up to 42" at the beginning of 2011 and it's mega, 1080p movies, 5.1 surround, great experience
HarrisonFamily
My sisters TV has always been fine until they upgraded to a SKY HDTV box....so its not the size of the TV. I first watched HDTV at a friends, I had the 1st drink for years and thought it was the drink so went to bed early and then the sick feeling arrived again in the morning as soon as the TV was switched on - that was a normal size TV.... I do get queasy early..I cannot even watch a roundabout let alone sit on one...I even struggle playing ring a roses...which as a childminder is a work hazard.... cyclonetog
That's a pretty conclusive test! Very interesting, I'm going to look deeper into this one, see if I can work it out.
chickencam
I do find watching sport on HD hard on my eyes if I am tired, it is however the only way to watch sport if you have a modern flat screen TV, they don't cope with movement well even our plasma which was supposed to be the bees knees for sport, we still has to upgrade to HD with Sky. I do find a weird ghosting effect on some HD programmes after they have been on for a while and the lip sinc. seems to go too.
