chickenlass
I usually post inthe chicken section but I had to have my rabbit put to sleep yesterday after he succumb to fly strike. Please please keep checking your bunnies regularly in this warm damp weather as I can't believe how quickly this came about [he was OK 2 days before] I should hate this to happen to anyone else. As I am now bunnyless please will you all give your rabbits a big hug from me. RIP Sooty I shall miss you.

Ziggy
I'm very sorry to hear about your poor rabbit... you are right fly strike can strike very quickly, a vet once told me he knew of a rabbit who was perfectly fine when checked, then died less than a day later... All my sympathies....

chickenlass
So sorry for your loss May I ask what to look out for? - I check my bunnies daily, but just so I'm checking for the right thing... Fly strike is when flys lay their eggs in rabbits coat [usually at the rear end]. The best you can do is keep the rabbits bottom clean so that maggots don't develop. The Dogmother
I can't remember the name right now, but there's a spray sold at the vets that repels flies. I always sprinkle lots of citronella oil around to keep them off.

I have been thinking about doing that I think you might be thinking about the Beaphar fly strike guard & Rearguard products

chickenlass
He did have a regular dose of the spot on type fly repellent but still he got it!! I am very angry with myself as he has gone for regular grooming and rear end washing all his life at the vets but I must have just left him a little too long this time.....He was at least 10years old so he had had a good life but I feel I have let him down dreadfully by allowing this to happen. The Dogmother
It's one that you spray on the bunny's botty - I think it was Rearguard.

I only hope Bibble has such a long life. I have only just heard about these products as well. You are a good mum to them all. In time you might decide to get a new bun - there are plenty of rescue rabbits that need a loving home and if your rabbit made it to 10 I cannot think that they would find a better home. From what you say you gave him a really good life, much better than many receive xxx
