Poorly chicken after Holliday HELP!

Recommended Posts

I've come home from our three week Holliday with the kids grandparents.

The girls were looked after my OH then a freind stayed for a week to while OH cane over too.

I've been back 2 days.

There's is poop n auboise everywhere and their drinker is pretty mucky

But the most worrying thing is Hazel sneezing and croaking and roosting all fluffed up and poorly loocking!

Do you think it's a cold or gape worm?

They haven't been properly poorly as yet but I know instantly she is....

Advice please

From a sad worried newish chicken owner

Amy

Hi, yes those sound like totally poorly chicken symptoms! Watch her behaviour, is she eating and drinking? Is she being bullied? What are her poos like?

Some things to try are the usual... garlic glove in the water. Or a tonic if you have any (I use the net-tex one) If you have any net-tex nutri drops they are a good pick me up for under the weather chickens and stimulate their appitite.

But personally I would get her seen by a vet, as chickens tend to go down hill fast by the time you relise something is wrong.

Best wishes and keep us posted.

The run is easily cleaned up but the hen needs a bit of TLC and I'd start with a trip to vet for antibiotics. They pick things up if a bit stressed and croaking and sneeze may well be a respiratory infection. Chances she'll be right as rain in a day or two with treatment :)

Well OH wouldn't hear of taking a chicken to the vet :shameonu:

So I kept a close eye on Evil Edna (ahem Hazel)

She stopped coughing by the afternoon

Yeasterday she was only sneezing

and today she laid and egg her tail was up and shes stopped sneezing

Quietly hopping it was a passing cold

But I'm going to research mycoplasma...

I cleaned out the coop sprayed it, changed their auboise, dusted it with Diatom

and collected up all the poop

Hopping that will help with their health...

Well I kept a eye on Hazel

OH was against the trip to the vet so I waited to see if she would recover

But she's gone down hill :(

She began coughing again and when I saw her gaping this morning that was it !

We took her to the vet this afternoon ( £50!!!)

She had a temperature and has lost allot of weight

we've come home with Baytrill for Hazel and Flubenvet for all three girls

I hope she pulls through its touch and go...
