A double egg day!

Recommended Posts

So, yesterday a most odd thing happened. My white star Polly, with her curly toes, laid her egg as normal early in the morning, by about 10ish, then last night, when I was putting them all to bed, I have just locked up the cube and polly (who lives in a wooden coop with the naked necks) hopped out of the door (have actually been in the coop) hopped off the ramp and stood most oddly on the floor of the run.

she was sitting like some kind of japanese bantam crossed with a furby, and I thought "oh god, something drastic is happening, she's dying!" and then, she popped an egg out, stood there for a couple more seconds, then got back in the coop and to bed. It was so weird! To be fair, the egg was not properly hard shelled it was somewhere between a thing shell and a soft she. anyway, my pullets who live in the eglu hadn't got to bed so I quickly scrambled the egg for them and they had a bedtime snack.

I know that was a lot of words to describe a small event, but it just was so strange and unexpected. I also wish that my bluebell, cream legbars and orpingtons would take the hint and fire an egg out that quickly rather than marching around screaming before sitting on the nest for three hours. :wall:

Oh I dunno, if my pullet wyandottes start laying I'l have 17 layers, I will drown in a tidal wave of eggs!

Mind you, at least five of them will stop completely for winter, so thank heavens for small mercies.

Listen to me though, so many people complain about too few eggs, I have too many. I keep trying to tell them to pace themselves, but hey ho.
