sparkysmum
....today the postie brought me the news that I have a Virgin London Marathon place Don't know whether to laugh or cry & just sharing my agony with you. It is a ballot place and therefore I don't have to raise money for a specific charity, although I almost certainly will. At the mo I keep breaking out in smiles but then recoiling at the prospect at having to train over winter for a distance which is double anything I have done in the past. Anyone else got a place / anyone else done it/ Alli x
Chucky Mama
Oh my I remember the joy when I got a rejection letter from the London Marathon and the huge gulp when I got acceptance for the Brighton. You can do it I bought a book called The Non Runners Marathon and it was very useful - it followed pretty much the schedule that I downloaded from the Runners World website but it also had stories of other novice marathon runners which was useful. I would invest in a Garmin watch thingamy that records your distance etc. You can then download your schedule from Runners World directly to your Garmin. Good Luck
Snowy
I had a vague idea that since I was now going to the gym, it would be good to run something. So a friend talked me into signing up for a 10km run *gulp* I started the couch to 10k app this morning Luckily the 10k is 2 laps of a circuit so I have convinced myself I can stop half way if needs be. Couperwife
Wow how exciting for both of you The women's running magazine is really good. It has real information in it, not just for superstar runners, and it's aimed at women. It's got a forum, handy for any questions that you may have. I've not got any races planned at the moment. I do the 5k park run on Saturday morning, it's really good. It's free and timed. Oh, I've just remembered..I have a 5k race it's called the gunpowder plod. It's in York. It should be great fun. It's one from the rat race series Good luck with training, keep us informed of how you are getting on Cathy X
CheekyPekins
I haven't done a marathon, only a half-marathon - but I got there by doing the Nike+ training programme, which worked for me. The Nike+ watch thingy itself wasn't too expensive (basically because they've brought out a new model, so the "old" model is cheap, esp. if you go on Amazon or Ebay!) Good luck with it
kinsk
I'm starting the couch to 5k on Monday. Have never been able to crack running even when I used to do a lot of other exercise. Good luck!
yvonne
Good Luck to all of you. My OH has run quite a few marathons in the past, but it's never interested me until recently. I have started doing training runs along a beach with him and must admit am really enjoying the feeling of extra energy and gradual improvement it gives me. I know I'll be a really grumpy cow when I get to the stage when the improvements get harder to achieve, but hope I don't give up.

Ain't Nobody Here
Oh my word, I share your horror . Nothing like a unexpected ballot place to motivate you to start running again though! You've done really well with your half marathons before so I'm totally sure you can do this too .
lillybettybabs
ice baths and a big supply of energy gels needed then!
