chickenlass
I don't have children of my own but today a lady called to collect her cat from my cattery and had her 3 year old grandaughter with her. The little girl had been enchanted with the chickens when they had brought the cat to stay and according to Grandma had talked of nothing else but these chickens during the whole week they were away. Today she arrived just in time for Margo to come out of the Eglu having laid an egg. crowing proudly .....Well I just can't get over the little girls face when I showed her the warm egg and gave it to her to hold...I then put it in an Omlet egg box and she proudly took it away with her to give to Mummy.,... I really think Chicken must make wonderful pets for children to keep with the help of adults...do you all agree?

Sarah 2
Definitely the best pet for children. My children love them and their friends think they're so cool. The added bonus is they're so easy to look after.
Ziggy
Yes I agree, with adult supervision they make good pets... ours belong to our daughter, she is 7 rather than a toddler, but she adores them... She once made brownies to take to school to share with her friends, informing !!
chelsea
I agree about pets, they are great pets and educational too! A little girl across our cul-de-sac loves to come across and let the chickens out/put them back in....open the egg port and feed the girls treats....so much so that half the time we cant get rid of her! (bless) and her mum always comes to our house if she is looking for her
debratugwell
My three and a half year old loves our three - Dora, Boots and Swiper. She lets them out every day, helps me clean out, collects the eggs, feeds them and carries them round the garden at any opportunity. Also known to take them on the trampolene with her - which is very amusing to watch and they don't seem to mind one bit!!!!!!!!!!

Jules.
My chickens have taught my 3 year old where eggs come from , for a kick off!!He loves to help me clean the Eglu, but now that I have an outside tap & a pressure washer he may become redundant. His favourite job (of course) is collecting the eggs http://club.omlet.co.uk/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=14101

Madchook
I have to agree - I have been surprised at how enchanted my 20 month old daughter is with our chicks. Every morning she asks to see them before we leave for nursery- and she loves to give them their 'numnums' I want her to grow up knowing all about where all her food comes from (be a while before she can learn about eggs with our two tho!) but she is certainly comfortable around poultry - took her to a kiddies farm last weekend and she was eye-eye with a goose trying to give it a cuddle!
