soapdragon
I saw our lovely Postie, Fiona, this morning and remarked on the fact that she was pushing a brand new trolley full of post rather than using her usual bike! She said that bikes had been taken away from all our village Posties and they had been issued with trolleys for 'Health and Safety' reasons - bikes are clearly considered 'unsafe'. What on earth is going on? Life on a remote Scottish island is looking VERY VERY attractive as the world goes madder and madder!
Ain't Nobody Here
That's crazy . Presumably it'll take the poor posties a lot longer to do their rounds now .
Charlottechicken
Some of our posties have trollies. Our postie seems to be one who brings her several bags of mail in her car and parks in strategic places along her route, to return to the vehicle to swap bags. A while ago our then postie was trialling a brilliant electric trike, it was fab, but the management didn't go with it
Chicken shack
We have three posties in our village and they use a combination of bikes, trolly and postie van.
sjp
it's not the bikes that were considered 'unsafe' it's the carring of the bags that was a Health and Safety risk. we're in one of the areas that has been trialing the new system were they send out 2 men and a van plus the 2 new trollies which have removed the 'Health and Safety' risk ie the posties no longer carry heavy bags of post but is now an enviromental risk do to all the fumes from the new vans oh and it now takes longer for the post to be delivered because there is now only 2 posties doing what used to be done by 6 not that they admit that
snowberry
My sister & BIL are posties in Dorset. Their jobs are officially part-time but because of cutbacks, they both effectively have full time rounds for the same wage. They have transferred to a van & share the round now. They work flippin hard; I did leafleting once & it took me ages
Janepie33
Haha! I thought your post was about a campaign to get rid of posties on bikes! I too have spotted a couple of trollies around our area AND a van. So much for the Green Agenda.
