More car problems...

Recommended Posts

I always seem to have car problems!

I got an '06 Corsa for my 21st at the start of December... 2 weeks later I started driving home from Uni for Christmas and 15 mins into the journey my car started chugging. I pulled over and it died.

I called the breakdown company out who 2 hours later said they'd tow me home but wanted £240... So instead they took me to the local garage who said they Head Gasket had gone and it'd be £300 to repair.

Wasn't happy but left it with them. The dealer I got it from said that it was "wear and tear" which their warranty wouldn't cover - I said we should get trading standards involved as they said the car was serviced etc and the garage said they'd definitely have known before they sold it, but dad is dealing with them for now.

Went back to the garage in Aber a week later to collect it and the repair cost had gone up to £600! :|

Anyway, drove it home and the Engine fault light came on and there was an oil leak

I had to drive it 3 hours back to the garage for them to have a look at those and then get the train home.

That was a week ago and I'm hopefully going to collect a fixed car tomorrow!

Sorry for the essay, not sure what the point was but feel better for the rant.

Sorry to hear that Lewis, I remember you talking about getting a new car.

Buying cars especially the not so new ones is a minefield but you would think that by going to a garage to buy rather than a private sale you would have some protection.

I hope you Dad sorts them out. If all is not well when you collect it can you take it to a local garage for them to assess it and tell you whats what?

Good luck

Chrissie

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Sadly, I don't think warranties are worth the paper they are written on. We bought a Seat Alhambra from a dealer a few years ago. Had it just under the 3 months when the electric windows went. Took it back to the garage who repaired it. Then the wiring loom caught fire! Went back to the garage who said it wasn't covered by the warranty! Looks like the wrong size fuse was used. After many many hours and weeks of phone calls, letters etc, I won't go into it, but we paid for the wiring loom to be replaced and we sold it. It was a horrendous time, but I think with hindsight we were pushed into buying it without thinking - apparently the other couple who were on the forecourt were there to look at it!

I do hope you have better luck with yours. I wish I had this place to rant when ours happened as I am sure it would have made me feel better :D
