Lavenders_Blue
Pet Theft Awareness week will be taking place from 14th - 21st March. This is the first ever PTAW, and is is taking place due to the increase seen in pet thefts. There is a website with information about preventative measures you can take to keep your pets safe, and what to do if your pet is stolen. bluekarin
Signed Such a shame this sort of things is needed I live in eternal fear of Neela being taken as she is so striking. We get lots of comments. It would be like someone taking one of my children taking her
Lavenders_Blue
I hadn't realised there was a petition on there Thank you anyway!

Alis girls
Signed - on lighter note - does anyone want a fat tabby cat? I suspect not - unlikely to be nicked. she eats too much
The Dogmother
Very timely too considering the amount of dog thefts going on at the moment. Phil and I were walking the hounds at the weekend and spotted some men watching us from a car pulled up in the gateway of the field we were walking across; I called the dogs over and got them on leads, then gave the blokes a good staring. Lavenders_Blue
I heard today that a village fairly near us has experienced 4 dog thefts in the last few days The most shocking thing is that the dogs have been quite literally snatched out of people's hands - the thieves have simply jumped out of a vehicle in the street, cut through the dogs lead (whilst the owner is holding it!), bundled the dog into their vehicle and driven off. I can only imagine they must be using false plates to be attempting something so bold. You would imagine your dog would not be at risk if you were walking down the street with it on lead. I am now wondering whether I should buy a chain lead to walk Tango on. I don't for a minute think that she would be a prime candidate to be stolen (I believe these were all pedigree dogs that were taken, presumably to sell on or breed from) but on the other hand, I guess you can't be too careful
The Dogmother
I'd buy a chain lead L_B. There was a similar incident in town last week; an 11 year old girl was punched in the stomach when a man leapt out of a car and tried to snatch her dog, thankfully he didn't get away with it. No mention of the type of dog. A reminder, if you haven't already done so, to sign up to Dogwatch... or the version run by the police in your area; it really helps to keep abreast of dog-related and rural crime in your area. I was walking the dogs in a new area for us this evening and although there wasn't anyone around, I kept them close and called them back regularly. Mind you, anyone would have a devil of a job catching my two; they are that fast!
Lavenders_Blue
I'll have to find out if we have a Dogwatch or equivalent here - I've not heard that we do. I'm thinking it might also be a good idea to set up a DogLost profile so that if the worst does happen (God forbid) then it's all ready and waiting to be activated and I won't have to faff around trying to upload photos and details in a state of panic. In fact this is something we should all probably do anyway.
The Dogmother
Good idea L_B. LL has (or at least had) car stickers saying 'all dogs in this car are neutered and microchipped'. Yet another deterrent.
Lavenders_Blue
Good idea - I'll pop across and see if they still do them. Tango also has a 'chipped and neutered' tag on her collar.
