Now Florence is poorly...UPDATED

Recommended Posts

As some of you will know I've had ongoing problems with my pekins :(:( So it's Florence with an upset tum this week (just when I was hoping for a vet free month!! :( ) She looked very off colour on tue, not eating and sleepy. So I checked the poo trays and there were some mucusy poos with a little pinky/red colour to them. Off to the vet that evening having given her some nutridrops. She seemed brighter at the vets and I had taken some poos with us  The vet gave her a steriod injection (she had lost some weight since last weight check after the not eating saga!!!) She had a poo sample sent a month or so back as she always has slightly mucky knicker feathers, but that came back clear. They were wormed end jan.

Well she seems slowly worse. Not eating much at all althought bright and busy, but today her comb is very pale :( I did my usual poo pick and stalosan sprinkle of the wood chip today and found a nasty runny bloody poo :(

I am bringing her in each evening and giving her nutridrops and food she will eat (last night she got a botty wash and blow dry too)......but I think we will go back to the vet tue if she is still with us :(

Any thoughts??

Thanks egghead, I suggested that but the vet didn't think so. I did treat them with coxoid as chicks as there was some blood in their poo. I'm at my wits end!! :( Honestly if it's not one it's another :( The other 3 seem fine and all laying! Tilly and Polly, laying and both the picture of health after their bout of myco too!!!! She is such a sweet thing, I bring her in and we spend a little time "chatting" together, while I tempt her to eat!!

Did I remember right....that your 3 had myco too?? If so are they better now?

Well it's not looking good for my lovely Florence. She won't eat tonight :( Had some critical care formula, so she's had some of that. Had a feeling she would be worse and booked an appointment at the vet's tomoorow from work today. I am unbelievibly sad :( I had already decided after my recent loses that I would not replace and just hope my little gang of 6 would stay healthy and have a few years with me.

I feel a bit in a spiral of doom :( Appointment is at 6.20pm, it was a struggle to get that.....apparently the're very busy!!!

so sorry to hear you are having problems with Florence again. You really have had an awful time of it lately! It really isnt fair as you look after your girls so well. I hope things went well at the vets and he has given you a diagnosis, please keep in touch and let us know how she is getting on. x

Thanks for all the support everyone! :D

Well, I wasn't feeling hopeful for Florence, we saw Sarah the vet (she thought Monty was georgous too!!) who has seen the girls before and is always SO kind and supportive. She thought that as Florence looks "perky" and was alert that it was worth giving her another go!! :D So tonight anti-biotic injection and a dose of panacur, Two more doeses to follow. She has unfortunately lost alot of weight :( But we will see how she goes, I am bringing her in every evening for TLC and nutridrops.

All the others seem.....dare I say it, really well :D Today I got 5 eggs (only Florence didn't lay) but have Penny and Molly boardering on broody :doh: Little girls Tilly and Polly are also laying well and looking good! :D

So will let you know how Florence goes.:anxious:

That sounds more positive. Have you got some high calorie food you can build her up with? The vet has suggested high- calorie budgie food and sponge cake (!) to me before now. I have also resorted to little balls made of peanut butter and coconut.

I do hope she pulls through. Great to hear the others are OK. You have been having a terrible time of it.

Sadly, I have to report Florence is slowly fading :( She eats less everyday or though to look at her she seems bright enough, red face and comb, scratching about, alert, bright eyed and not sleepy. But her crop is always empty and her poos have done a back slide to very watery :( She is SO thin and I'm all out of ideas. :(:(

Did bring her in again and give her the usual nutridrops, some critical care (all via syringe) and try to tempt her.....but I fear the worst. I hope if she goes she's with her friends as I'd rather not have to have her PTS like Monty, that just broke my heart :(:( She would have been a year in may, I hatched her with Molly as "mum" I just don't understand

More chicken misery for me I fear....

Any news mimi? Any improvement?

Thanks for asking and I'm afraid to say she is still with us. I was thinking that she would go in her sleep, but she seems to be hanging on. She is alert, potters about and her face & comb are red, enjoying laying in the sunshine but another trip to the vet today confirmed she has lost more weight and my vet suspects avian TB :(:( Sweetly though she said she would give me a 5 day course of baytril for Florence "just in case it helps" but neither she nor I are optimistic :(:( She said Florence doesn't appear to be suffering and was happy for me to bring her home. Oh and she very kindly only charged me 84p for the baytril.

Am so sad as Florence would have been 1 year old at the end of next month. Loumabel you will understand.....now a new thing to watch out in my shrinking flock

So Molly, Polly and Penny are all broody :wall: Only Martha and little Tilly (who was so poorly with myco I was sure I would lose her!!) still giving me an egg most days :)
