bantam orpy chicks - up to date photos

Recommended Posts

They are very sweet! One of my girls is sitting at the moment, very excited :D

Yes, they are very sweet, especially the brown chicks . I also have a Pekin Bantam sitting at the moment, just 7 days to go until 'Hatch Day'. Mine is sitting on 6 Silver Laced Wyandotte eggs. Also very excited .

They are so, so lush

I have 14 in an incubator on day 8 now. Did they hatch day 21? Were they easy to candle?

The 14 eggs are from a bantam Orpington breeder and he gave me a mix of colours so the children will have fun watching them grownup and guessing which colour they will turn out to be.

They all hatched on day 21, which surprised me as 3 were given straight to my pekin bantam & she sat

through all the freezing weather, the other 3 were in an incubator for the first 2 weeks then given to my

broody brahma. So totally different conditions yet they hatched at the same time!

Yes I did candle them, with a small LED torch from Tsco & a black glove & it was amazing to see, I've never

managed to do it before.

good luck with yours

little Pat (so named as his mum did a broody poop in the nest after he was hatched!)

Houdini at the back (a girl) with Pat & Berty - they still sleep indoors at night.

I'm quite sad that 4 of the 6 are boys, as Pat & Berty sleep indoors I've become very attached

to them, but as I have no female frizzles to go with them it's unlikely I'll find them homes :(

at least I've ended up with a trio of gold lace, so Major Gold has a chance.

I'm letting them all free range so they have a nice life even if it doesn't turn out to be a long one
