Alis girls
Spent Friday pm with my 12 yr old son in WIC with a swollen ankle due to an athletics injury. after 3 hours and Xray came away with strapping and told no fracture. Today OH took him back and a fracture albeit small showed up. Hes been hobbling round with a fracture all weekend. He went back for crutches. I know NHS is stretched and abused _ I work for it and have done for 33 yrs but angry and let down. Thankfully not life threatening. We fly to Spain in 2 weeks - not sure iif will be able to go. If weathers like this might cancel and opt for UK which wont please ES at all. Had to sound off sorry.
bluekarin
Had lots of experience with this with my kids. From what I know a fracture is very hard to see if the area is swollen. My son hurt his wrist at school. They first thought he broke his scaphoid but it turns out after a MRI he broke his wrist! Thankfully the break stayed in position so started healing straight away. It does make you cross but I do now understand why these things happen. I hope your son is feeling better soon and heals quickly with no problems
Egluntyne
It's not always easy to spot a fracture in a child. We had a similar experience with one of mine, with a broken ankle that didn't show up immediately.
Alis girls
Sorry shouldnt type when cross - forgot to mention the Doctor we saw was elderly and the Nurse Practioner told my OH the Doctors eyesight wasnt that good. However I know some fractures are hard to spot but if your eyes are failing should you be in the job.? I know I have to wear my specs for removing sutures and looking at wounds cos I'm as blind as a bat without .Sons at the Fracture clinic on Tuesday for possible POP and a definite assessment. Nurse was 99% sure there was a small fracture. Apologies for not explaining things properly.
Valkyrie
Oh yuk, poor little un. I was lucky - or not - they couldn't help but notice mine! Hope he is doing OK. I made 3 new friends when I was stuck last year. Surprisingly in and out of hospital so quickly. Back to normal now so if a 54/55 year old can mend purdy good, then it's going to be brill for a youngster's recovery. I have since spoken to people that have walked around with a break that wasn't noticed and had to be reset when it was discovered at a later date and they seem to be doing OK now. I wish him all the best. Lots of hugs for you because you are probably suffering even more because it's your little loved one. And we would all feel the same in your position too. So it's normal to be cross when something like that happens - it shouldn't but then they didn't spot my disc problem till months after because of the swelling. bluekarin
No, I don't think he should be responsible for checking X-rays especially for a child who have notoriously hard fractures to see. No wonder you were so cross. Hope the appointment has some better news. And some better eyes
pips_pekins
Not surprised you are feeling cross. Hope your son is doing ok and that Tuesday's assessment goes well.
