Eggs overnight in roosting area

Recommended Posts

Good morning, the title sums it up! Let my girls out this morning at the usual time 6-30 and I always have a quick look in the litter trays and found an egg with no shell, opened the top of the cube expecting to see a shell but all I found was another egg, this one was perfect. Could they have laid this morning? Would be really surprised as they have always laid between 10-2 although one of the girls laid early yesterday(7-30)

What's going on ladies??

Could they have laid yesterday and I miss them? Don't think so, and the eggs was stone cold so didn't seem freshly laid.

Also for the last three says one of the eggs has what looks like blood stains on the shell, not loads just a little. I have checked the girls and no signs of injury or prolapse, any ideas?

Thanks in advance xx

I found an egg in the run this morning. Goodness only knows who laid that or why they couldn't be bothered to head back to the nest box. Caught short I imagine  These things do happen from time to time.

Re the blood on egg, it could be that one of the girls has laid a larger egg which has caused a bit of bleeding. That usually sorts itself out quickly. It can also be indicative of red mite, I believe, so might be worth a quick check? But I think the first option is more likely.

See what I mean?! We are all continually learning, I don't have red mite thank goodness, I check constantly and the girls have had the spot on which I assume offers me a little protection agains the red peril, isn't it funny the things we worry about are red! Red coated demon, red mite, red alert:)) just a thought for this morning! Can anyone else think of any red terrors...maybe we should start a new thread.

I found an egg shell miles awy from the laying box this morning. No idea when it was laid, but must have been early. Mine sometimes have what look like blood marks on them , but haven't really payed any attention. Thing is you wouldn't get them n supermarket eggs, they would be rejects, although probably perfectly normal.

Good morning

Since I had the softie and an egg in the roosting area the girls have been behaving themselves and laying in the nest box:) I have had a few bed smears on the eggs and a few k"Ooops, word censored!"bly ones but as you say they would be rejected by supermarkets....I wonder what they do with the rejects!

In the USA you can buy liquid egg in bottles... yuck! Also, what's that egg based liquor they use in snowballs at Christmas? Bet some end up in there!

We have had a few blood smears on the odd egg or two. When ever it happens I have a good health check on the brood just to check no-one is showing any signs of illness etc... but I do think it is normal from time to time.

I have also had a shell less egg splat in the poo tray in the morning... it makes me giggle to think she must have been asleep and SPLAT! Wonder if she even woke up
