Bondy
Hi all, Following the recent death of our lovely partridge silkie Myrtle (she had a massive abscess in her mouth that had been removed by the vet once but unfortunately came back within a week of antibiotics finishing) we have decided to replace her with another two silkies if we can find them - pref a blue and a red one. Does anyone know of any good breeders in the South West? I am waiting for 1 breeder to call me back but not holding out much hope with them. If anyone can advise of a good breeder that would be great! Thanks Ed
Chortle Chook
Hello Bondy, I don't know how far you would be able to travel but Rachel from Hambel Valley near to Winchester is well worth contacting. She has lovely birds, both Silkies (very pretty red ones and blue ones too as well as other colours) and Polands The tel is Phone: 07738570740, email racheal@bushellr.fsbusiness.co.uk Good luck and do let us know if you find what you are looking for
Bondy
Thanks! I've just found some photos of her birds on this forum and they look lush! Just phoned but she isn't sure what she has available at the moment so she will email me back later. I'm quite happy to wait for a month or so if she has some young'uns though. Thanks again. mollyripkim
I have 7 silkies from Rachel, all lovely. I also belong to New Forest Poultry on Facebook and there are several adverts with pictures of silkies on there too.
CheekyPekins
Hi Bondy, where are you in the South West? If you're near Taunton, I just got my new girls (both Silkie crosses) from Pure Poultry near Ilminster - they have all sorts of breeds and a lovely free range set up
Chortle Chook
Thanks! I've just found some photos of her birds on this forum and they look lush! Just phoned but she isn't sure what she has available at the moment so she will email me back later. I'm quite happy to wait for a month or so if she has some young'uns though. It'll be well worth the wait, honestly. Rachel's birds are lovely and her set up is so worth visiting. But you may need to remind her that you are on the waiting list, as she lives in a whirl of activity (fostering children short term, looking after a vinyard and keeping loads of animals super clean) and she can forget things. I'd give her about 2 -3 weeks and then call her mobile. By then her little ones will be showing their sexes and she'll know what she has I'm as that you'll have an opportunity to go there and come back with something
Bondy
I think it was your girls that I saw mollyripkim. We had an email back from Racheal and it looks like it may be a couple of months before any are ready unfortunately. Need to call her to confirm though! I may have to ring pure poultry as well to see - I got my pekin, bantam orp, partridge silkie and sablepoot from there but I didn't think they did many colours of silkie so will call tomorow to speak to Miles. Thanks again all. Will update you all with some pics when sorted!
CheekyPekins
Oooh - Bondy, that means you're near me - nice to know there are local fellow Omleteers I've got no idea what colours of Silkies Miles had (apart from white, as I spotted a beautiful white Silkie pootling around), I'm afraid I went to get a bantam Wyandotte and a bantam RIR, went a bit "chickeny" as my husband calls it and came home with my 2 lovely new girls instead
mollyripkim
Sounds like you have a lovely mix of girls Bondy, I love the bantam orps too, I have a black and a white/chocolate and they are such characters. You'll have to post some photos, hope you manage to find some silkies. I am over to Rachel's in the next couple of weeks, it's always so tempting but I am out of space so can't have anymore. ShellNick
Hi Bondy! I'm not sure if you're still looking for somewhere, but I got my girls from a really good place out towards Brompton Ralph, which is a few miles outside of Taunton. He has over 60 different breeds of chickens and ducks and when I asked him for his current list of stock two weeks ago he had black, gold and white Silkie's. I was really impressed with his set up and I can let you have his details if you're still looking. I was struggling to find local breeders and thought I would have to travel some distance until I came across this website: http://www.lowcostliving.co.uk/chickens/poultry-chicken-supplier-Somerset.php and I realised there were more local breeders in the area than I thought
daxigirl
I've just treated broody Persil to 6 partridge silkie eggs. said she couldn't have any more chicks this year but she's relentless. If you do go to Racheal's your welcome to pop in for a cuppa as I'm only 15 mins away.

daxigirl
Of course . The chicks might have hatched by then, having lost my dear little silkies Brillo, Costa and Wurzel, said I wouldn't get any more but they are cute. What colours are you looking at? Chortle Chook
Well the 2 silkies I was going to pick up have somehow turned into 2 Polands : a chamois and a gold laced but I am so excited. I'm picking them up on Sunday afternoon, and to make me extra squeaky with joy, I'm going to meet up with Daxigirl and see her Russian Orloffs and daxi dogs.
