How old was your oldest hen, when she kicked the bucket?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have been keeping chickens for three years and our oldest hens are currently two and a half. We have room for a few more chooks, but don't want too add them yet as we have recently added three new POL hens so I will probably get three more... a couple of years down the line when their eggs slow down.

Anyway, I know that the average age for a hen is about 5/6 years, but wanted to know how likely it is that she will reach that age... or if it is likely that we may can one that goes on for a bit longer?

The three oldest (the ginger ninja's), are all ex-bat's. Do ex-bat's tend to live as long as hens that have lived the good life?

I thought if I complied a list of everyone's record-breaking eldest hen... I might get a good picture
