FIRST IMPRESSIONS over a cuppa!

Recommended Posts

Kate I feel the same way, you explain it so much better than I could.............I also come from a family who don't hug or kiss I can't remember my mum ever getting very close to me when I lived at home. I am determined that my children won't feel the same way as I did when I was growing up, all I ever wanted was a hug or kiss to reassure me. I hug and kiss my children all the time but feel very awkward about hugging anybody else even close friends and if somebody attempts to kiss me on the cheek I don't know what to do.

I hug - I guess that it's the mediterranean blood. Certainly the Italian side of my family are v tactile. luckily Phil is the same, Rosie is just a cuddle bunny ans says that she'll still want her hugs when she's grown up - thing is she's nearly the same size as me now!

I hugged Lesley when I first met her, as I felt that I knew her well enough (through the forum), also, her forum persona isn't as shy as her real one. I think that happens on the phone too - the body language issue is cut out of the picture and things seem really different.

Ha ha I was just looking back at this thread and really enjoyed the hug/no hug debate! I quite like a hug myself but you can usually tell when it isn't going to be welcome... I often get wrong the social kissy kissy thing - you know when someone homes in for a MWAH! and you present the wrong side of your face and end up in a lip lock no-one wanted? That is something I can just never get right. Although I have been better at it more recently, but I've embarrassed myself and others on countless occasions. So much so that I think people feel I do it on purpose :oops:

I hope I don't come across as a closet lady snogger (not that ther's anything wrong with that and I do have a particular favourite girlfriend who I am happy to snog at any time), but is there a rule about which side of the face gets the mwah?? If there is please tell me! and don't be afraid to meet me!

:lol: Know just what you mean, Mrs.BS & Nicola.

I grew up as "no hugs" and am probably still quite reserved. But, more uninhibited now & also tend to live on my emotions, so may burst into spontaneous hugs unexpectedly. (You've been warned.) I now kiss my parents & siblings (I must have started it)...one cheek only.

I absolutely hate the 3 kisses on greeting thing, but find that I just do it through expectation now. But goodness knows which side to start...I recognise exactly that experience described above

I'm very close on occasion to saying when someone heads towards this practice, to push them away & say "I'm not French you know":oops:

I've honestly nearly done this, but some little social warning alarm went off in my brain.

Sometimes it feels OK & just friendly, but I hate the false awkward ones.:wink:

Kate and I had a successful hug on Saturday...infact we had two! We drew the line at snogging though :lol:

You just sort of know instinctively when a hug is right. Mind you, saying that, most people I know from the West Mids are big huggers and whether you know them or not you're normally in for a good old back pat!

We are talking face cheeks here I hope!!:shock::lol: Like Gina said the midlanders like a hug and a kiss actually and you have to have a cuppa too, otherwise you are odd. See Sheila you are fine, if you like tea then hugs come naturally!

Hate it when someone holds your face and kisses your lips...YUK!!!:evil: It's really offensive, sorry but I might make the exception for Johnny Depp and Mikey can do it of course!!

Also wet kisses. Like kisses and hugs just don't slobber on me!!:lol:

I'm a Midlander but don't like kisses from strangers - and I don't drink tea - do you think I need therapy?
