Chicken bald back

Ok after 3 and a half years of chicken keeping, I have only just found out where the crop is . I knew what it did and how it worked, but never thought to ask where it was. When I put the ex bats to bed tonight I noticed a swelling at the bottom of their necks/top of their chest. At first I was concerned then I fell in with a great big splash. They had lovely full crops. I checked out chicken anatomy on the internet and was relieved to find that this was normal.

 

The other thing I don't know is what OH stands for. Is it old husband ?

 

Are their any abbreviations or terms that have confused anybody else? Or is it just me

Ha ha, yep we all fall for that one re the crop! Yep it is the bulge above their chests at the end of the day which signifies, eaten well and going to bed now.......bit like my good self sometimes, only in the tum section! OH I think is 'other half' for those who have a significant other in the household?!!

heh - i recall the first time I noticed i had asymmetric hens being very worried about this strange swelling.

Took me a few days of rummaging round the internet to realise this was normal

Yes I agree, we've all been there with the crop - wondering what on earth this weird swelling is on their necks, only to discover it's the crop

 

Have you found the preen gland yet? That always panics people too!

Haha thank god I posted the question before trying to remove this large white tick from the base of the tail....i read all about the crop so was prepared for that but the preen gland...gee wizz that freaked me out!
