Space Chick
My cats are nuts! Firstly, I was awoken to three cats, 1 mouse as carnage ensued in my ensuite bathroom! This was at 12.30am! Thanks cats! Then as morning took hold, Sophie decided that sitting in the ensuite sink was THE thing to do, as she could watch Sabrina on the floor. Then once Sophie vacated the sink, Sabs decided it was her turn! So it appears today my ensuite is the greatest place in the house. Nutters! JellyBean2605
Gotta love 'em. I can't have mine in the bedroom a night, the little one likes to sleep at the bottom of the bed so usually gets kicked off on to the floor and the other one taps me on the arm all night asking for food! JellyBean2605
I'd never be without one, the OH is allergic but that didn't stop me
Space Chick
I'm allergic and still have three You build up a degree of immunity to your own over time and I just take antihistamines
JellyBean2605
We got lucky with the first one - inherited from my mum who was getting a rented flat. Then I got broody and dragged the OH down the local cat sanctuary, he chose the cat and thank god too as he was terribly allergic to her for 3 months before it settled down. The only reason we kept her was because he had fallen completely in love with her!
Grandmashazzie
That's interesting.I would dearly love a cat,we used to have them, then had none for about 2 years. Then we got a rescue kitten OH started getting really wheezy as soon as he came home from work.He saw GP who said your allergy is going to get worse. We persevered for about 4 weeks and kept kitten in family room, but practically as soon as he opened door his eyes started to stream and he began to wheeze. In the end we had to take kitten back to sanctuary,in fact OH took him back so lady could see how bad he was,she brought him into the kitten room and he could hardly drive home his eyes were streaming.Did you just put up with symptoms or try piriton to damp symptoms down? Space Chick
I take allergy tablets (cetrizine) 360 days a year!! But these do keep symptoms at bay. That said, when is go to friends houses with cats, my eyes still stream. With each of my cats arrivals it has taken 2 months for my symptoms to subside and to build a degree of immunity to them. Grandmashazzie
Space chick that is interesting.I would love to get cat,I think he could put up with streaming eyes but wheezing is more worrying and suppose it would not be very kind to bring cat in and then rehome. Space Chick
Some cats are better suited to allergies than others. Devon or Cornish Rex breeds don't have fur as such, so they tend to be great for allergies, but need to be indoor only. Most breeders will allow you to spend time with them to see if you aren't affected. They aren't cheap cats though
Lavenders_Blue
My husband is mildy allergic to cats but never realised until he moved out of his parents house where he lived with several cats. When he went back to visit he would get a really snotty nose and streaming eyes, but it was never a problem when he lived there as he built ups natural immunity to the cats. Gertie
I love to hear about cat antics! It always amuses me the way they seem to work together, especially where escaped mice are concerned. My cats are constantly up to low level mischief & I forgive them for everything. Their newest activity is rug fighting at night. We have a large new rag rug on a shiny wooden floor. They fight & roll themselves up in it & give you the 'what me?' face when discovered!! It's good to hear people can persevere & overcome cat allergies. Thankfully my partner isn't allergic
JellyBean2605
My OH gets a bad reaction to other peoples cats and worse with dogs, natural immunity does build up but it takes time, he took 3 months to get used to our newer cat. I've heard that allergies are worse with darker haired cats but I'm not sure if that's true.
coco
We have two cats. I am slightly allergic to one but not the other, also one of the dogs makes me sneeze but not the other one. It must be too do with the type of fur they have. Weird.
