kajlbw
Hi everyone, All my 30ish week old Lohmans seem to have gone off their layers pellets. They used to attack the feeder first thing in the morning but now they wander over for a brief snack on them and then start munching on the dock leaves or watch me poo pick . They were on ordinary pellets from our farm shop but I changed them to organic but they weren't keen at all on those. I've now changed them back but they still aren't keen. They are otherwise looking really healthy and happy. None of them have laid yet but a few are doing the squatting thing when I touch them and so I wondered if it might be that they are bracing themselves for their first eggs ... however I would have thought they'd be eating more in anticipation? I give them some corn in the afternoon and porridge at bedtime. Should I stop all the treats for a few days to encourage them to eat the pellets (I would feel so bad though, as they come bounding over in the evening when I arrive with their porridge!!)? sjp
cut out all the treats early in the day and keep them in until mid morning if that doesn't work it might be the pellets check the sell by date and smell if they smell musty then replace them with new ones
mimi5
Just a thought, have you wormed them recently? I know I need to do my gang!
kajlbw
Hi, thanks for the replies. The bag of food has just been opened and they were wormed about 3 weeks ago, so its neither of those things.
merlina
Do you have nutridrops? I find a squirt of them can have quite miraculous effects on a not-eating or under the weather chook. If your girls are otherwise good then I wouldn't worry too much - just keep an eye out. The squatting thing is because they think you're a cockerel It's a good sign - they should lay soon - probably as soon as the days get a wee bit longer
mollyripkim
Mine particularly like a splash of cod liver oil with a sprinkling of chicken spice mixed in their pellets, they definitely show more interest in them.
Redwing
Mine particularly like a splash of cod liver oil with a sprinkling of chicken spice mixed in their pellets, they definitely show more interest in them. This is a good idea I would also cut out treats. If they like porridge then make some out of pellets mixed with hot water instead to fool them in to eating it
Chickabee
I agree. Definately cut out treats. They are very fickle things, but they won't starve
