gavclojak
Have just seen this news report and it sent shivers down my spine. I was not keeping chickens the last time there was a crisis over avian flu, salmonella etc....did it affect any non commercial chicken keepers? Hope this doesn't sound like a really stupid question? Ain't Nobody Here
As far as I remember, we were all instructed (not personally, just generally!) to keep our hens under cover, ie in their runs rather than free-ranging. I think this was to keep them away from wild birds who could be carrying something.

PoachedPlease
Hmm if avian flu reaches all the way to my girls in deepest surrey, from Asia...then everyone in UK is already in deep trouble so dont worry yourself about it. Xx
Chickabee
I can't keep my exbats in. They don't have a covered run . I don't want to make them sad again

The Dogmother
We had an outbreak of H5N1 within 10 miles from us a few years back, so we were on lock-down. No real problems, just kept them in the covered run until the all clear came through, and wasn't able to transport any chooks. It is a good idea to have some form of bio-secure accommodation (a run with a clear tarp on it is fine) then if we had an outbreak and you were in a risk area, you'd be fine. TBH, DEFRA don't really bother checking and it's down to the individual to keep themselves informed; a friend who lived on their farm inside the lock-down area neither heard from them, nor had a visit

Chickabee
Why my tropical fish pretended to be dead the other day? He's a male platy and keeps getting the female pregnant. I thought he was bothering her all the time, perhaps I was wrong . Any ideas godmother
