sarah corkish-brown
Hi guys, excuse me being naive, but I have just taken a young light Sussex cockerel under my wing (excuse the pun) and we have 4 girls, which I believe is enough for him on his own - anyhow, can he go in the same hen house as them? I have a house that accommodates 6 birds - a Maggie Hen House - they are free range birds. Help!
sjp
he can but introduce him the same way you would a new hen quarantine him for a couple of weeks then Free range him with the girls so they can get away from him if he's less than 16 weeks old the girls will pick on him. if older he should be able to look after himself either way he'll have no manners were the girls and he's 'manliness' is concerned and is antics will look brutal at first but he should settle in quicker than introducing a hen or two as there's ' less politics involved you might find that the girls take to him straight away and he behaves himself
sarah corkish-brown
He's gone straight with the four of them they are following him around quite nicely, once in the house at night will he settle down? He's come from a large free range home where there were a lot of hens and cockerels! That's why he's here - I can't quarantine him as the house is in the open countryside with no fences.
