Inside out egg.

Recommended Posts

When i got home earlier i found one the bantams eggs just laying on the floor or their run, when picking it up it seemed ot have the white thin layer that is normally between the shell and the yolk on the outside of the shell, .

I havent opened it yet to see if there is one in there as well, but is it possible sometimes to ahve an egg inside out so to speak?,

She is normally fine, and makes a real racket when she wants to lay an egg, where as most of them do it afterwards..... x

This sounds very much like a soft egg. Mine lay these occasionally when they haven't eaten enough soluble grit. When they do, I bake and crush up old egg shells and mix them with mash potato and give this to the chickens as a treat. They love eating this and the next eggs they lay have hard shells. :)

I don't think you need worry - lots of hens lay soft eggs once in a while, especially when they first start laying.

Sounds like a 'lash' as they call them in these here parts.

And the term covers all sorts of eggs that aren't eggs. Misshaped, totally off the wall weird, soft shell, no shell, - just something that happens in nature now and again with all poultry and animals.

Nothing to worry about unless it happens all the time - and so long as they are having a proper balanced diet - with access to calcium mixed grit -crushed oyster shell and other grits - and greens of course.
