kajlbw
Hi all, I noticed on of the girls had a dirty bum last night and when I picked her up I could clearly see her vent. Never seen one before as the fluffy feathers usually protect their modesty ! When I went to open them up this morning she came out happily but is still mucky and vent is kind of pulsating. When I left them she had gone into the nest box so I'm hoping she'll lay. However if she does I won't know if it hers because they'll all go and have a go at this time of day. Im presuming she could be egg bound? If her vent is still visible later all I can think of to do is give her a warm soak in a bucket? Any other tips would be gratefully received! Thank everyone
Egluntyne
Their vents normally pulsate. If she was egg bound she would be in obvious distress, hunched and miserable etc. the most common cause of a mucky bum is worms. I'd give them all some Flubenvet and see if there is an improvement. kajlbw
Ok thanks, she certainly didn't look unhappy but they were all wormed mid December with Flubervet so I presume they'd still be covered? I thought they'd need another dose after 4 months? Can I give them another course earlier?
Egluntyne
You can. I would redo them now.
kajlbw
Okedokey will do. I reckon she's laid; Ive got 6 hens (I know 1 isn't laying yet) and I've had 5 eggs this morning so it could well be worms. Will start treatment tomorrow. Thanks for your advice, really appreciate it
