newcountrygirl
I have 2 Polish Frizzles. The older one started laying last summer but then stopped and so far hasnt layed since. The younger one has never layed since we got her. They have been wormed and treated regularly with diatomous earth. Any ideas?
Beantree
Check them for mites and lice and make sure they have good quality layers pellets. Have they enough run space and is the area free of predators or anything that may frighten them? They will only lay if they feel happy and secure. They may not be a particularly good laying breed either, being bred for appearance not productivity.
Egluntyne
Are you absolutely sure that the non laying hen is in fact a hen? The reason I ask is that a friend of a friend asked me to have a look at her non laying Pekin bantam. One glance told me all I needed to know. Poor lass had bought a 'trio' and thought it meant three hens. She did admit that it was 'a bit noisier' than the others.
Purplemaniacs
She did admit that it was 'a bit noisier' than the others. My little Mini Silkie boy is definitely a bit noisier than the two girls but one of the girls can be rather noisy when he is being friendly! NCG I hope she is a she and just a slow starter. Daphne
Ditto to all the above, but if nothing is wrong and she is a she, then I'm afraid you'll just have to give her time and possibly she may never lay, some birds just don't, thankfully not many Over the years most of my polands have been little troupers on the laying front, but I was once given 2 hens, and one of them laid once and that was the only egg I ever saw from them
newcountrygirl
haha - thanks everyone. The younger one is about 1 year old. The other one is 2 years old. They both look healthy enough. They are wormed regularly and treated with the d. earth. They love their food and have lots of greens too. I dont really mind if they dont lay because they are such cheeky characters, and they older of the two loves a cuddle now and again!
