Elliebop
Hello all, One of my bantam brahmas, Tatiana, has had a squishy crop for a few weeks now. It empties at night, but just never feels firm when it fills through the day. It started after she got into the herb patch and gorged on garlic chives one day - she stank of garlic immediately afterwards, of course, but there has been no smell from the crop since. My other bantam brahma, Olga, had a squishy crop for a few days a while back but now hers feels more firm when it fills again. So, I'm wondering if I should be worrying about Tatty. She has just come out of her first broody phase, and she otherwise seems fine and happy in herself. Should I be concerned? I do get a bit obsessed with their health - I've had them 5 months and am otherwise new to chicken-keeping, and I've learned loads from this forum, so thought I'd post the question here. Ain't Nobody Here
If it doesn't feel liquid-squishy then it's probably nothing sinister. Usually if they have sour crop, they look miserable and hunched and when you tip them forward gently, lots of liquid pours out of their beaks. Worth keeping an eye on though. Could just be linked to being broody and spending more time sitting than eating!
Elliebop
Thanks for that. It does feel liquid-squishy, but otherwise she seems absolutely fine. Will keep an eye on her - as I do, obsessively with all 3 of them anyway!!
Ain't Nobody Here
If it does feel like liquid, I would def watch her for signs of sour crop. Useful info here.
