Dahato3
I have a pair of black East Indian ducks who live together in harmony in a reasonably large pen. For weeks I have been on the look out for any eggs so you can imagine my delight when last week the first egg was discovered!! My problem is that since then (and quite possibly before) all 5 eggs have been laid in the water, which seems such a waste. I tried to attach a spare omlet run onto the duck house hoping that she would lay on dry land before letting them have access to the main run and pond. Day 1..... No egg day 2 she laid in the small trug supplied for dipping in water today I've given up and let them back out into the main run. It is so frustrating...... I only have the 1 duck who is a delight to watch, very entertaining but she isn't the most prolific layer so every egg is precious!! At this rate I won't even have enough to bake a cake. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas anyone? Thank you in advance
Cheeky Chooky
Our Muscovy girls are let out of their at about 06:30 and they've always laid by then. Can you keep them confined to the smaller run and give them their water in something that they can't lay their in? If they've only just started laying, it could be a bit haphazard to start with anyway
KyleG
I would just give them a while to get used to it. When my girls first starting laying, they tended to appear in the garden and all sorts (they're let out at 6am). Now they lay in their pen 100% of the time, even if they haven't laid when they're let out - they'll go back in. I'm sure you'll have no shortage of eggs before too long! We struggle to get rid of all of ours now
