SilverC
Hmmm, so it looks like I may have done it again. Last time we got a new girl, she turned out to be a cockerel, and a magnificent one at that! So, it was time to add to my flock, so I went to a breeder who sold me a beautiful cream legbar, and a Maran x Hybrid. Now its the latter (Blanche) who I, not sure if she is male or female. Could someone cast their eye over his/her pics and let me know your thoughts? She's allegedly coming up to point of lay, and does duck down when you go to touch her back like hens do, but also lifts her heckles at you if you pick her up for too long. Any help much appreciated. If Blanche turns out to be Bruce, then its back to the breeder, as we aren't allowed to keep cockerels sadly (they are on my allotment). jimnpaula
I think you have a lady, maybe she's just a stroppy lady. The squatting is a good sign. I reserve the right to be wrong though as the netting and the white colouring don't give the best view of the feathers.
coco
Looks like a hen as far as I can tell.
SilverC
Thanks all. I'm pleased to say she is definitely a girl, as she laid her first eggtoday, a dark brown with a few speckles shiny egg So pleased, as couldn't face introducing a new bird. Thanks again. I'll know not to listen to the other allotmenteers again, as it was them who kept going on about her being a cockerel!

Charlottechicken
Phew! I was going to add, before I read your bit about her laying, that I have a light Sussex who shows her hackles, and is also very broody. With that amount of face furniture at POL she looks girly anyway
