Chicken bald back

I can't decide if this is chickens or chat so I may be moved along.

 

I did store my chook food outside in tall galvanised (ish) pedal bins from the High Street, they worked well for 4 years but now slugs have found a way in and the inner buckets show evidence of nibbling (could well be squirrels). Although nothing (apart from slugs and I really don't know how they managed to do it) can get to the contents yet I feel the time has come to replace them.

 

Ideally I would like something that I can keep outside so I was thinking along the lines of metal dustbins. I can't bear to touch galvanised metal though, even thinking about it now is giving me the willies.

 

So has anyone seen on the High Street or can recommend online some enamelled/powder coated metal dustbins?

 

I have tried surfing online but the internet hates me. If all else fails I will have to buy a proper horse feed storage bin but that is a last resort as I know I will struggle daily trying to get things in and out.

This is quite cheap (powder coated too!). I use one myself for keeping chicken feed in. Mine is kept in the shed however.

That's a lovely one, Fred, but it doesn't look exactly rat proof - or perhaps a bungy across from handle to handle would do it

the white and black ones are powdered coated the silver one galvanised i have a silver and white one but they are kept in a plastic garden box that you keep all your cushions in for your patio furniture like it says they are for indoor use only had mine over 3 years and no rust at all and even though they inside the box i still have a bungee hook to keep the lid on and lock the box up

Slugs are getting in everywhere at the moment. You need something heavy on top of the bin. The bungee straps are a good idea too.

I've got the IKEA bins there aright indoors but I wouldn't use them outside the powder coating isn't thick enough. the lids will need holding down to stop rats lifting them

Oohhh thanks Fred, I didn't even think of Ikea. Weighting down the lid is easy enough to do.

I found a whole family in my corn bin yesterday. It's weighted down, I don't know how they got in

Small chest freezers or old fridges/freezers laid on their backs make excellent rat proof feed storage - not exactly pretty but really really good
