MaryHen
...well still no Eggs and I have had the girls for nearly 3 weeks... I can say that there is definite squatting action occuring and some one had been trying to create a 'nest' in the nesting box. There wattles and combs are also quite big and red now as are their faces!! You can bet that they will start laying when I am away on my girly holiday next week and hubbie is looking after them!! I have strictly told him he isnt to eat the first egg, to which he said that is fine, I'll be eating all the others in omelettes all week - grrrrrrrrr - PS - I do love my girls though; I was saying to a fellow chicken keeper at the weekend, that I cant imagine life without them now, they are my baby girls and I will miss them sooo much next week. MaryHen
No still no eggs but they make good lawn removers; they have managed to pull up large clumps of lawn in the pursuit for grubs!!
The Dogmother
I bet OH is loving that! They will come into lay a bit later than summer hens, as the days are getting shorter now. Try keeping them in the run more in the morning when they eat the most.
MaryHen
I can report that Doris has started going into the nesting box and making herself a comfy spot; is this a good sign I tend to keep them in the run during the day at the moment as I've got to fix my netting a little better - I let them out when I get home though around 5:30 ish. The Dogmother
That sounds like good news! You do realise that it's obligatory to do the Egg Dance round the garden, and to squabble about how you will cook/who will eat the first egg!
