Karenremirez
Hi all. I had 51 coternix in my incubator but only had 14 hatch out and when I looked inside the eggs a lot of them had dead fully formed chicks inside, what do you think went wrong. Incubator is an Rcom king suro 20 temp 37.5 humidity 55% till day 16 then 75% stoped turning on day 16 I did get one chick hatch on day 22 which is very late, the rest where day 18 and 19 any help and advice would be great. Thanks Karen
Redwing
I would guess that the humidity was too high at the end the air space in the egg fills with moisture and kills the chick. I know a lot of books advise higher humidity but personally I hatch quails eggs dry (in that I dont add any water) I find the normal humidity in the air is just fine. Eggs also need air to develop and hatch and a lot of people make the mistake of blocking air holes to raise humidity too. Also keep the incuator shut from start to end of hatching, quails normally hatch very close together and the drying quail will slightly raise the humidity for the ones that are still to hatch, opening the door after the pipping stage can be quite damaging The nutrition of the parent birds can also be to blame but I would say that humidity is the problem here
