Mrs Frugal
I've split this topic off from the conversation in the gallery topic. It all started with me thinking that the chaos in the photo gallery might have been caused by the Phantom Photo Flinger which prompted Louise to remember the Phantom Flan Flinger from Tiswas (oh those were the days!). Lesley remembered the Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town and that's where this topic took off....... The Phantom Raspberry Blower? I remember that - and "It's big and it's black and it's hairy and I be afraid of eee!" - I used to love the Two Ronnies when I was younger! Talking of Ronnie - there's a grocers in a village on the way to Nottingham called "G-G-Granville's" !! Made me laugh anyway ! Mrs Frugal
L-S Hubby and I were talking about the Two Ronnies in the car on the way home! Charlie Farley and Piggy Malone . Oh the memories!!
Bill
Great stuff, but is anybody else old enough to remember the Dreaded Batter Pudding Hurler of Bexhill on Sea (which must have been the inspiration for Mr Barker)? http://www.thegoonshow.co.uk/scripts/batter.html

Lesley
Kate - I think this should go in a new topic? - Reminiscences Bill - even I'm not that old - I think you should go to the Age topic and tell us all!
Mrs Frugal
I agree - I'll split off the topic and we can wallow in TV nostalgia as much as we like! Bill - I remember the Goons - we had books with the scripts in so I think I remember where you're coming from! TV nostalgia can't go without a mention of Tom and Barbara Good, can it? Jane reminded me of them in the Survey section asking about favourite episodes. I love them all and can watch them back to back all day without failing to laugh at them still. Oh and The Professionals - (we need a drooling icon - Bodie !) Edited March 10, 2005 by Guest
SarahJo
Great stuff, but is anybody else old enough to remember the Dreaded Batter Pudding Hurler of Bexhill on Sea (which must have been the inspiration for Mr Barker)? Sorry Bill, I was born in 1971, so did not "get" the Goons .. however my Dad was a fan of theirs, but sadly now in the great sky above, so can't have a quick laugh with him about it. he will be smiling at your refernce though . Lesley
Carl could watch Faulty Towers non-stop - I don't mind them occasionally but the best bit for me is the anagrams - Farty Towels is the best (and I wonder where Jake gets it from!) And the new Bill and Ben is a load of ...............rubbish - not a patch on the old one. Woodentops were always my favourite though
Sheilaz
Skilfully avoiding age topic (but Bill is right) found you'd moved to separate thread so thought I'd join in... My favourite 2 Ronnies sketch was.....I used to say this twice, once with..I went to Baden Baden, Baden Baden Pardon, Pardon, No, No, Baden Baden, Baden Baden etc. DOES ANYONE remember " Do not adjust yiour set" (whoops, age has slipped) with Denise Coffey & a very young David Jason? Just a bit before Monty Python (also brilliant) I think.
Mrs Frugal
I loved the silly public service announcements Ronnie Barker used to do - the office for pispronouncialtion etc! On the childrens TV theme - who can forget The Clangers, The Wombles and Tales Of The Riverbank - awwwwww! Oh and Trumpton (Pugh, Pugh, Barney Magrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grub ), Chigley and Camberwick Green. Oh the memories!
Jangle
My favourites as a very small child were Pogles Wood, Noggin the Nog, The Clangers, Ivor the Engine, Jackanory, Blue Peter (in the Val, John and Pete days) Then I graduated to Star Trek, Sapphire and Steel, Monty Python, The Young Ones and Captain Scarlet when I was a student. Come to think of it, my taste in TV programmes hasn't changed much in the last 35 years.
SarahJo
With you on the Clangers Jangle and Kate .. I liked the Soup Dragon. I also liked the Mice in the Mouse Organ .. Bagpuss , Captain Pugwash was ok .. but learned it was a tad rude, in later life. And I hated and still do MR BENN ... scary bloke. The Wombles were , as my Mum and Dad met up on Wimbledon Common ... and I used to think they had actually seen Orinocho. .
Jangle
I'm not quite sure if I should admit this but I collect Clangers memorabilia and Noggin books. I'll get my anorak now......
SarahJo
Someone has to . No seriously, they sell Clangers stuff all over the place, and Noggin is back on the TV ... from 8pm on Nickelodeon Junior isn't it.
Jangle
Alas I have yet to enter the cable/satellite age but I do have two Noggin videos that I wallow in from time to time. My children (and the OH) think I am quite mad. The Clangers and Bagpuss I own on DVD
Lesley
I've got Bagpuss but then I've also got grandchildren so it's OK
Trish
Who mentioned "The Proffesionals" I spent many a night drooling over them both. Pre meeting hubby of course
Bill
Do not adjust your set - yes, that was great. Didn't it also feature the wonderful Bonzo Dog Doodah Band? The Clangers was a big favourite, with, of course, the Iron Chicken. A little later, but I also loved the things like Reggie Perrin (though most people I know hated it). And there was another marvellous series in the 1970s called 'I didn't know you cared' starring the excellent Liz Smith, Robin Bailey and some of the people from the original Last of the Summer Wine. Did anybody else like that? Talking about Liz Smith, I think the Royle Family will forever be one of my all-time favourites. And Allo Allo of course. Ever Decreasing Circles was another favourite, it was filmed in the village where we used to live in England. I nearly bought the house used by Richard Briers and Penelope Wilton. English telly was wonderful (and still is pretty good).
