robskyd
We have 3 chooks of which 2 are now laying. Doris lays first without a problem or a sound, but when Maddie lays about an hour later she and Doris make a right racket!! Its as if Doris is getting het up as she is the dominant bird and doesn't like Maddie on the roosting box!! Has anyone else had this, and will it go on for ever or will they sort evrything out themselves... just thinking about the neighbours!! Oh and poor Ruby is a little younger and just keeps out of the way, her time will come no doubt.
Sarah 2
Mine seem to do that too. I've bought a water pistol to shoot them if they get too noisey.
robskyd
I've read a few entries about water pistols. Does it work? What do you do, just shoot them and they shut up?
Sarah 2
I only bought it yesterday and so far I haven't used it. I'm not sure it's going to be powerful enough to shut them up. I'm not really sure what you're supposed to do but I was just going to aim and shoot. We've already had the complaints from the neighbours.( neighbours teenage daughter)
chelsea
we have a noisy dominant hen. She bawk bawk bawks when she's across the other side of the garden and the other hen is no-where near her. the other hen then comes scurrying along to be by her side. I read in my chicken encyclopedia that sometimes one hen adpots the characteristics of a cockerel...! We tend to ignore Ella (noisy hen)....we do worry about our neighbours - but I think they seem noisier in the garden than what they actually are as only 1 neighbour has even guessed we have them. Ladylucan
i actually use a water sprayer, rather than a water pistol, ( holds more water ) A majority of mine make a racket once they have laid their eggs, except for one of my bantams, if she wants to lay an egg and there is someone on the nest god forbid!!!, she makes enough racket to raise the dead, I then have to go and move the one already on there and normaly stay and keep watch while she gets comfy and have to remain there till she has laid, otherwise the other push her back off and we end up again with an almight commotion. And she is the smallest of the whole lot,,,,,,
Snowy
Afraid I use the hosepipe If I use a waterspray, as soon as I put it down one of the boys picks it up and runs of to play with it. When I need it again it's either empty or set on a fine mist, neither are much use.
