Cockerel muffling..

Recommended Posts

Just been reading through this! Poor you :( It makes me feel very glad I have such lovely neighbours in my close :D I also have a pekin cockerel Max. He is actually my second cockerel and I did have a year in between without one.

My neighbours all like him or don't mind. He does crow more through the lighter spring/summer months and I've heard him at 5.30am. I think pekins have a nice crow :D not too shrill or long

I would wait and see what the outcome is. Sad for you to have to part with your boy and it will upset your girls (mine missed Monty when he was PTS :( )

I have personal experience at trying to prove noise nuisance against a previous neighbour, re- very loud, very long frequent (most weekends :( )parties in a semi. Our children were very, very young at the time, it nearly drove my hubby and I to nervous breakdown!!!! Our evidence went to court and we won. It was lots of jumping through hoops. In the end though we moved and are in a lovely detached property with fab neigbours.......but I do worry if somebody new moves in I might have problems in the future :anxious:

Best wishes whatever you decide and please let us know what happens??

I really don't want to have to rehome Ron. He is a very handsome and gentle bird. However, I neither want to get an enormous fine! So if the council's recording equipment finds him to be too loud, he will indeed be going to a new home. I'm just curious if anyone has experience of bring monitored and found to be within the noise limits? I wonder if it is judged on time of noise or volume of noise or combination of both. I just really don't think he is very loud!

Thanks for your supportive messages! X

Really sorry to hear this. Over the back of us we have someone who keeps chickens, not the nasty lady I have spoken of before. I think they have an Old English Game Cock bird who has a very pitiful crow, but beautiful non-the-less. He is obviously accepted and to be honest if we had a Cockerel we could possibly get away with it - but as our nearest neighbour's bedroom window is directly opposite the pen, it might be a step too far.

I am sorry someone is doing this to cause you problems - that is why they have not come to talk to you. Sad and nasty because they have nothing better to do with their lives!

I think they record loudness and also frequency at said time so if Ron crows every minute for 10 mins at 5.00 am that would look worse than if he piped up just once at 4.30 am if you see what I mean.

I'd certainly sit tight so see if they do fill out their forms etc. etc.

I have a cockerel and (touch wood) the only person who has complained in 9 years is someone who does not even live here but who visits his daughter from time to time.

Today the family's 14 yr old daughter had an inset day. Everyone else was out so she'd opened all the doors of their house, turned the stereo up full and the bass was thumping from 11am til 3.. Non stop. Could hear it still with all my doors and windows shut..,, couldn't help wondering why that's considered ok.,,,

I suppose my biggest gripe is if I do have to rehome Ron - that's it.. I think the complainants and ourselves are both in what we consider our "forever homes"....

Ho hum.
