Ain't Nobody Here
I'm pathetically excited because we're getting more kerbside recycling options soon . As well as the usual cardboard/paper/plastic bottles/cans/tins/bottles/jars they'll now take plastic trays & pots too . They already take batteries, textiles and food waste and will now accept small electrical items too . We're getting a much smaller grey wheelie bin for landfill but I'll be very interested to see if everyone manages to reduce their general waste to fit the bin. I know we will. Doesn't start till Nov 27th but I've already started collecting all the new stuff and have a bin bag full already .
Bramble
It's funny you should say that ANH - our local Council started to collect "rigid plastics" a while back, not just plastic bottles - we were told we shouldn't start stock piling old plastics until the scheme started though as they wouldn't have the capacity to deal with the backlog!!! I love recycling - I've even got my own "scheme" going at work but even there it's amazing how many people don't bother and just chuck recyclables in the bin
Ain't Nobody Here
It makes me cross at work how many people say they can't be bothered recycling . We're supposed to be an Eco School but the staff room is the worst for just chucking everything in the same bin . Maybe I'd better not save everything from now till Nov 27th - probably wouldn't fit in my bin anyway .
mullethunter
Normal rubbish bins have been removed from our offices now as we have a target of sending 0% of our waste to landfill by next year. We're pretty good at recycling already but it does make you think even more
Bramble
That's really interesting Mullethunter - we have "proper" schemes for recycling paper and card etc, but the other recycling - like plastic bottles, cans, old printers, batteries etc is down to me. I don't mind, I volunteered to do it and I understand that there is a cost to the firm if we had official recycling schemes which mightn't be justified by the amount of recycling we actually have (there are only about 35 people who work here), but it is reaching a point where there is more recycling than I can deal with, I'd love to find a (very) cheap way of business recycling that doesn't involve me calling in at the tip two or three times a week, but I'm not having much luck
chickencam
It annoys me in our area that we have good facilities for done stir rubbish but all business rubbish gets put in the same bag and goes to landfill. This seems very short sighted. We save our cardboard and recycle it and all of our confidential paper is shredded by a specialist company. We also take any electrical items to the recycling centre, but it would be so much better if the council would get their act together in this.
