Willow
My shameful secret is I read the DM This morning there was an article I agreed with it was deriding the 50 signs you've made it now I do have one or two of their list Cinnamons OH fitted an electric garage door this year and I do love my log burner but I don't see them as signs of success Some of my signs of success are at least partly luck but here they are I really enjoy my childrens company and always have I know my teens like me (almost) all of the time every so often I drive my teens crazy and they still love me even while I drive them crazy My boys are happy I feel like my boys are achieving their potential without me being a dragon mother I love and like my OH I like my job and feel i am contributing something useful When my ES left home he was able to look after himself, thrive and enjoy the independence whilst loving his visits home as well My boys are growing up to be young men I am very proud of No member of my family have any desire to wear designer label clothes I love my SILs and feel like they have enhanced my life I love and get on with my siblings I have a lovely home because my OH and I have worked hard renovating it over the last 10 yrs and done a lot of the hard labour ourselves and done what we love ( we love our corridor that we made into a library) not what we're told we should have (home cinema) We have only 1 tv and it is smaller than 55in I have friends I love I've had many of my friends for decades There is still room in my life for new friends I know and like my neighbours I'm healthy and physically fit (luck is a part of this I know) I laugh every day (often at my runner ducks as they run around the garden) My pet cats are from an animal rescue rather than pedigree My family at home sit down together for a meal every day Other than my mortgage I'm not in debt (save rather than credit, one reason my house is taking so long ) I had no desire to buy anything on Black Friday I contribute to my community and enjoy doing it I measure my success by the happiness of my children and the quality of my relationships rather than how I have spent my money
Ain't Nobody Here
Your list could almost exactly be mine apart from: loving my sibling renovating our home (we're both DIY numpties!) we do have 2 tvs but they're both well under 55" (one is titchy!) pet dog rather than pet cat from a rescue centre I heard something similar on the radio yesterday but didn't catch much of it. Willow
Your list could almost exactly be mine I think my definition of success is close to that of a lot of people on here I find the idea of measuring how successful your life is by what you have spent money on terribly sad apart from: loving my sibling That's where my element of luck comes in renovating our home (we're both DIY numpties!) I'm proud of the amount of us that has gone into our house rather than how much we've paid for people to do. We've been very lucky, Cinnamon's OH was a great find and has done work and we've a lovely plumber and a few others but we've done all of the unskilled work of cleaning,s"Ooops, word censored!"ing, digging, painting etc. On the downside the house is no longer in a convenient place for work but we can't bring ourselves to move. Valkyrie
Oh I don't have to check the list. I'm perfect. And what makes it so is everyone knows I'm right, right?!
soapdragon
My shameful secret is I read the DM I am having yet another hard of understanding day.......I had to read this sentence three times before I got the gist ! Initial thinking was 'well, Dogmother is clearly a woman of many talents but I didn't know that she was a writer as well and why should anyone be embarrassed about reading her work? Is she a closet Mills and Boon author or is it more 50 Shades of Grey ? I think I need a lie down But I agree, Willow, success cannot be measured in monetary terms and the most important thing is to concentrate on what matters to each of us. Quite often its the small things that really mean so much; I love school home time when I get a huge hug from the boys and I look forward to that all day!
