newcountrygirl
I have 5 chickens plus a cockerel. I havent had an egg from any of them since October. Felt a bit hopeful last week as their face all seemed to be getting a bit redder but so far nothing. Every time I go to the coop I tell them "no eggs soon and you'll be for the pot" but they take no notice whatsoever. I know its because the are 2 Pekins, 2 Wyandottes and 2 Polish frizzles all bantams but they are little madams. As I write this - I am watching them free ranging and living the life of Riley! Beantree
How old are they Newcountrygirl? Our oldies are just coming into lay now, but only a few of them. The youngsters didn't really stop except for a week during a cold spell.
Purplemaniacs
My two Wyandottes haven't started to lay yet, they stopped in the summer. Chrissie
mimi5
Ah you have my sympathy The egg famine over winter can feel like forever! My pekin girls caught me out and although I had got the nestbox fresh, clean & ready to roll, I had it blocked off and found my first egg of this year on the roosting bars!!!! Penny who I'm treating for sour crop hasn't started yet, but the other 2, 2 eggs most days since the beginning of the month My lot will all be 3 years old over the coming months so I'm pretty pleased I guess try not to worry and it will happen!!! mullethunter
My Wyandottes (who are 2 years old) started again about 2 weeks ago. Nothing from the Pekins yet though.
newcountrygirl
One Wyandotte is over 4 so not sure much will happen there. All the others are only 2 so fingers crossed it will start happening soon. I have definately decided that when they go the the chicken run in the sky I will replace them with "big" chickens. They are lovely and have funny characters but I want eggs!
Luvachicken
Newcountrygirl, your time will come As did mine - eventually. I have 5 pekins out of 6 girls and I think they have all laid at some point although I'm not so sure if Polly has or not. And Lucie has never really laid since her wobbly head so I don't think she ever will. It won't be long before you have too many eggs
newcountrygirl
haha Luvachicken - I wont hold my breath. They are little madams. Originally I only had two then increased them to 6 plus the cockerel. Unfortunately I lost my beloved little Pekin Madge last year so down to 5. I was hoping to be able to sell eggs as there are only 2 of us but never seem to get enough for more than an extra box or 2.
