Chickabee
Yesterday I pulled out the droppings tray. I found in it a white blob that didn't look like poo. I investigated further and it was like a membrane with a piece of what looked like raw chicken in it. No blood and none of my girls are poorly. Any ideas ? Beantree
Sounds like it could be a 'lash' Chickabee. It's shed oviduct lining and perfectly normal. The hen will go off laying for a few weeks in my experience. Don't know why they do it?
gavclojak
Yes that's exactly what it sounds like, I have had a few,all different shapes and sizess but nothing to sorry about.
Chickabee
I thought it might be, but haven't seen one before. My Bluebelle has gone off lay. Guess it's her. Thanks
PixieDust
I do not mean to worry you but I found this: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2014/12/salpingitis-lash-eggs-in-backyard.html
Chickabee
Thanks Pixiedust. This didn't look at all like that. It wasn't waxy or pusy and not egg shaped. Hopefully it's not anything nasty. Will keep a close eye on my girl though
Luvachicken
Funny things those lashes. I think they look like not quite cooked chicken. My original girls laid some but I haven't seen any for a long time. I hope your girly is ok now she has got it out of her system.
Valkyrie
Seen a couple here with newbies. Looked like chewing gum and not egg shaped at all! Pale rubbery weird shapes.
Beantree
Had a look at the link PixieDust provided. I've never seen anything like that huge thing and perhaps it is more of a problem in America, same as Fowl Pox is? Correct about the bumble foot pus condition and we've also seen the same material when a hen cut herself in a soil bath on a nail. We have had a hen shed her entire oviduct and have heard of it from other sources. That condition results in what looks like a blood and flesh covered egg. The hen was fine, but never laid again obviously.
PixieDust
You may be right Beantree. I did think that. Hopefully this will pass quickly and the chicken will be fine. I stand corrected http://chickensaspets.uk.com/lash-eggs-and-dangerous-advice-from-bloggers/ Sorry I usually cross referance but was doing several things at once. Chickabee
That's very interesting Pixiedust. There's no way I'm putting my girl to sleep. You should see her she looks lovely and is eating and drinking well. It would be a crime. As for posting the wrong thing, I think most of us are guilty of that. I certainly am. That other article was very interesting, and could be of use in the future.
gavclojak
Well said!! We are all on here sharing our experiences and taking and sometimes offering advice, it's all done in good faith and offered genuinely. Very few on here are experts , some know more than others and that's thro years of experience so you take the advice in the way it if offered. You have nothing to be corrected about pixiedust.
