patsylabrador
I watched this programme about women policing and I really enjoyed it. It was quite honest about the challenges faced by women - mainly sexism in many forms. I joined in the seventies when all of society was pretty sexist really. I would like to point out at this point that I declined the kind offer of the station stamp on my posterior!!! None the less this programme made me feel a little bit proud to be part of this particular history. link
Valkyrie
When I was 10 I wanted to be a policewoman. That lasted a really long time - until I found out it was shift work - and with the neighbours we had at the time, sleep during the day was not on. Bad enough when my dad tried to sleep when he was on nights (constant hammering and dog howling - even with someone at home it would be shut in the bedroom joined to our bungalow and it would howl for hours). But then along came Jacques Cousteau and that was the end of the policewoman thing. I wanted to be a marine biologist. Well I still dream on! Alis girls
I wanted to be a nun after seeing the sound of music sadly I was much to naughy to conform to a life without a man (note man not men|) the odd glass of vino and good food. So that pretty much failed dismally.
Valkyrie
I went to a convent school - no way was I ever going to be a nun. Unless it was like Sally Field in The Flying Nun!
Space Chick
I wanted to be an astronaut.... I still do But as a fat, diabetic, Communications professional with limited science skills on the wrong side of 40, I think I'd better accept that the only way I'm going into space is if I win the lottery and pay Richard Branson to take me
patsylabrador
When I was little I wanted to be a pony and i used to gallop and jump over obstacles I had built. I realise now that goal was not achievable.
Valkyrie
Hahaha - did that too. My nan had a brilliant garden. Had the perfect Horse of the Year Show there with grandad's leftover bamboo canes and assorted things to prop them on. Best one was the hedge jump which consisted of a row of hydrangeas. They got bigger every year. I'm surprised I managed to get over them! Life is full of little disappointments Patsylabrador! But we come out the other side don't we. gavclojak
When I was little I wanted to be a pony and i used to gallop and jump over obstacles I had built. I realise now that goal was not achievable. Me too...I used to neigh, God my mum must have been worried....I would put a saddle (blanket) and stirrups (dads belt) on everything including a large ceramic pig my nan had, I would sit on it, drag it around the garden etc, we always joked when my nan passed it would be mine....my nan died a few years ago and the pig is indeed mine, I reaserched the pig as it's quite unusual and found it to be a rare wemyss thistle pig and it's worth lots of £££££ I wouldn't sell it for all the tea in china
